This is one of my earliest “street photos” and it remains to be one of my favorites. The photo was taken in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico in the “downtown” area of the city. The fellow in the photo was sitting at this bus stop near an overpass (hence the dark left side of the frame), just reading his paper. The scene was captured from across a four lane road and it took some time to get a break in traffic. Well… I’m glad I waited, and I’m glad the bus didn’t come too soon!

Signed prints available for $570 USD.

  1. Really nice color decision. Though colors are colors, black and white is the best ;)

  2. I love this image, it has really captured this guy!

  3. Excellent image with the composition and lighting making this something very special. B&W High contrast gritty image was definitely the right way to go with this :-)

Street photography is always challenging as a photographer but also great fun. Here are a few images from a recent visit to Germany when I had a chance to do some street photography http://www.patb-photography.co.uk/854/street-photography-in-bremen-germany/

  4. Great photos, Pat! I like the first one with the Turkish woman — and the one with the guy on the steps is pretty cool too.

  5. I’m from Monterrey, and I think I know where that picture was taken. Nice pictures!

  6. Lovin the black and white photography, why does it always look so good??
I even see real amateur photographers using black and white options on facebook and such like.

  7. I like the full range of differing tones present image – also the varying textures from the bus stop to the raw concrete – the subject is totally unaware of the camera – a very nice image
