The Lily Dies . . .     by Dawn LeBlanc

The Lily Dies

For her, the lilies hang their heads and die. ~~ Alexander Pope

A detailed shot of a lily as it withered away. It was gorgeous and full a day earlier, but more interesting at this time. The texture that came to be was remarkable and the sheen on the petals was difficult to catch. Often I think flowers become much more captivating as they pass on in life than in all too common shots (of which I’m guilty of) of them in full bloom.

This was done with a scanner, my favorite and cheap large format substitute. The original is approx 8000px square. I am starting a series by request of some very large prints in duotones. This may be one of those included. Let me know what you think. I typically don’t like or do flowers in black and white or toned images, so this is new to me.

  1. I truly like this lily ~ In some way it doesn’t look real ~~ But I think it has a very comanding presence ~~ Thanks for sharing ~~ “E”

  2. I think you caught the sheen on the petals as I noticed it before reading your comments. Beautiful! I usually prefer color images of flowers, but this duo tone works beautifully.
