Tear For Farhad . . .     by Dawn LeBlanc

This image is meant to symbolize the death of Farhad, using the very flower said to have been created for him by the gods to show sadness at his grievous end.

Mythology credits the origin of the tulip to ancient Persia and a tale borne of jealousy. Farhad, a Persian youth, was in love with a beautiful young woman, Shirin. Upon receiving word that the lovely Shirin had died, a devastated Farhad leapt to his death off the nearest cliff. Sadly, the news was false–a jealous rival had concocted the tale of Shirin’s death. As the tale goes, the ancient gods of Persia caused tulips to grow on the spot where Farhad met his end. This image is meant to symbolize the death of Farhad, using the very flower said to have been created for him by the gods to show sadness at his grievous end.

  1. Beautifully lit and composed, I like the way you have enriched the petals and given them the feel of burnished wood. The colours are amazing - I love it.

  4. Thanks Hamed. I got the information from a source that apparently had the name spelled incorrectly and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know. And thanks for the encouragment on the shot–much appreciated.
