Sunflower . . . by Dawn LeBlanc

This is an image of a Russian sunflower taken indoors in natural window light with the aid of an off-camera flash as fill for the center. It was late afternoon and the sun was just beginning to ease thru the window onto the back of sunflower, resulting in some pleasing backlighting. The flower was shot against a black foamcore board (the kind you get from Staples for $5) to get the saturated black background.
I often find that images of flowers can be more interesting after they’ve begun to wither. It’s not the same classic beauty we usually look for when they are in full bloom, but the changes in texture and lines as the petals and leaves begin to dry can produce another kind of beauty equally, if not more, compelling.

The organization of laconic statement of the staff has very much helped the photographer, if the background was picked up from light shades, all highlight of the staff was lost and to estimate it not should anything. The black colour of a background has helped to remove contrast on the necessary level, the colours and tone at the expense of it are transferred very naturally.
thank you for the comment–much appreciated, dawn
