Alfred Nicholas Boathouse . . .     by Neil Creek

The Alfred Nicholas gardens are a popular public garden in the Dandenong ranges in Melbourne, Australia. The charming old boathouse sits nestled beside a picturesque lake surrounded by lush vegetation and ancient trees.

The many linking paths through this garden take you beneath a canopy of the awesome mountain ash trees of the Dandenong Ranges. The garden was part of the historic Burnham Beeches Estate, home of Alfred Nicholas, developer of the Aspro formula. It is known for its extensive water features including waterfalls and an ornamental lake complete with boathouse. (Text: Parks Victoria)

I spent a relaxed autumn afternoon exploring and photographing these beautiful gardens. Nestled on the side of the Dandenong Ranges, this once private garden was overflowing with the golden autumn leaves of ginko trees, and framed by towering mountain ash. Golden leaves covered everything, and were scattered thick over the surface of the small lake. I took many panoramas and other photos here and completely lost myself in the beauty. When I saw the adorable cluster of mushrooms growing on the tree by the boathouse, I knew I had a special panorama.
