Rose Red . . . by Dawn LeBlanc

I had to do it. I had to try shooting this rose.
In the past, I’ve avoided roses like the plague because it seemed everything I tried looked trite or uninteresting. And god knows, there’s probably nothing that has been more photographed than a rose, especially a red one.
But this one seemed to be begging to have it’s picture taken. It was so big and beautiful and the petals so soft, the lines so enticing, that I decided to try. I probably took 50 shots and threw them all away, and then I managed this one. The one and only shot I’ve ever taken of a rose that I’ve ever liked. I’ve tried again since, and just as before, thrown pretty much everything out. So roses seem to be in my past, but for now, I’ll put this one in the present.
It was shot with a Canon 20D and Sigma 150mm macro lens, f/5.6, 2.5s indoors in natural light, no flash.

Wow, this is a great photo! I feel like touching my screen.
Without a doubt, … one of the most intriguing image of a rose that I have seen for quite some time now.
Simply excellent!
This is soooooooo pretty so rich with color and texture - one of the most beautiful roses I have seen.
thanks very much Jay, Michael and whoever is PNFphotography (btw, I’ve scoffed your California Zucchini pie recipe as I just happen to have a ton of them sitting around!). Your comments are much appreciated ~~ regards, dawn
