Upper Cottonwood . . .     by Cody Redmon

Last light view of the southern Crazy Mountains from Upper Cottonwood Bench.

This image was taken at the base of the Crazy Mountains here in Montana. This view from Upper Cottonwood Bench shows a southern portion of this magnificent range, the highest of its peaks reaching over 11,200 feet. Though they do not command the height that many North American peaks do, the Crazy Mountains are an ‘island range’, rising 6,000 feet above the plains which surround them in all directions. Considered a part of the Montana Rockies and the greater Rocky Mountain Range, they are home to the largest concentration of wolverines on the planet…and some of my favorite scenes to photograph.
