Moonrise Serenade . . .     by David Ziser

Although this image of what appears to be the sun rising is not what it seems to be. I still like the colors, composition, mood and feeling of the image.

Although this image of what appears to be the sun rising is not what it seems to be. I still like the colors, composition, mood and feeling of the image. It was actually captured along the Kentucky countryside on my way home from an afternoon wedding. I set the exposure to capture more of the moonlit sky which made the landscape go quite dark – yes, it was shot Jpeg. I set about in Photoshop to recover whatever details there were in the shadows. After a bit of experimentation, I came up with this image. I’ve added the grainy texture, originally added to disguise the noise, also adds to the moon glow, eerie mood of the final artwork. Exposure F22 @ 1/1600 second at ISO 400.

  1. I love the feeling of the photo. It is more like looking at a painting than a photo. I ,too, like to take a photo that you might otherwise not be able to use and play with it in Photoshop or Corel and give it a look worth keeping. Great work.

  2. Great post. I get a feeling of mystery from the photo, that there is something that is hidden there. Kind of when you get low mist on a moonlit night – a little bit eary and nightmarish – good job. Looking to get into a bit of amateur photography, but know it will be awhile before I can play about in photoshop to create something like this.

  3. David – I know your work through several wedding forums – but this to me is stunning , it looks more like an artwork than a photograph
