Just In Time . . . by Andreas Manessinger

… that I got up this mountain. Minutes later, and I would have missed a fantastic sundown. This is Dobratsch, a mountain in Carinthia, Austria, and I am at 2166 meters above sea level. It is February 16, 2008. The sun has just dipped down below the horizon and I am looking south-east. There is a church on this mountain top, one of two actually, and since 1692 this is the highest church on any mountain in Europe. When I arrived at the summit, the last visitors just left. “You are late”, they said. “Better late than never”, I replied.

Wonderful image. I love the color and the mood. Feels lonely and yet not alone.
Wow! That’s an incredible shot Andreas! I hope there was a carpark nearby, cos I would be terrified descending a mountain on foot after sunset! Beautifully done.
Thanks for the nice photo and description. I would like to visit this remote high altitude church.
