Winter in Mammoth Hot Springs, YNP, is always a beautiful thing. The geothermal activity spews steamy ghosts, casting soft shadows against the hard light on this particular morning. A spectacular display is always visible, but winter days around 0°F/-17°C will find you in a wonderland of silence and grace.

Signed prints available for $340.00 USD. Images are produced in editions of 50 and measure 12x12 inches. Archival quality is achieved by using light-sensitive, silver halide paper and a traditional chemical bath. Purchase price includes a classic black metal frame with non-glare glass; shipping costs vary depending on location.

  1. Sometimes “breathtaking” is too small a word. This is such a case. Love it!

  2. Wow Cody! This is brilliant–way to go!

  3. My thanks to you both, fellow FineArtPhotobloggers…much appreciated!

  4. Truly amazing photograph, Cody. Just beautiful.

  5. It reminds me of Ansle Adams, this is an amazing shot.

  6. @Vicki – Sorry I missed your comment V8. Thank you though, much appreciated. We’ll have to get down to Yellowstone together next winter…or maybe this summer while it’s warm!

@Logan – Ansel is my favorite of the Masters (probably not hard to tell), so I appreciate the comparison. Must mean I’m doing something right… :-)

  7. Stunning photograph. I just stumbled onto this site and have been looking around. There are really great shots on the site. This one and another of yours, ‘River Crown’, particularly caught my attention.

  8. Hey Gavin, glad to hear you found our little nook of the Web. I’m honored to be part of this great group of photographers, the diversity is outstanding! Many thanks for taking the time to share your support of my work and the site overall…

  9. Hi Cody. I’m glad to have found this site too! If I had the spare money I would certainly be happy to buy prints of some of your work, alas I don’t so I’ll have to just come back and browse the site occasionally! Sadly although I would love to be artistic I am simply not, so all I can do is admire the work of others.

  10. wow, this is amazing, love the use of natural light

  11. Thanks for your comment, early A.M. light is my favorite…when I’m out there able to catch it. :-) Much appreciated…
