Thanks Damien, I think I find myself doing the same “time test” with the various images I look at. You’re right, in that some images just have a tendency to keep your attention for a ridiculous amount of time. I’m glad that you found yourself getting stuck looking at this one. Unfortunately, the 800 pixel image doesn’t do it the justice it deserves — it’s a pretty crazy image to view on a large print!

Brian, you really did a great job with this image. It really is about the composition, the details, and the contrast. There are an abundant ways to determine whether a photograph is truly good or great. I think that my favorite “test” is the time test. How much time did I gaze at the image before blinking and allowing my eyes to rest and refocus. The longer the time, usually the better. I can tell you that this image held my attention for an exceptionally long minute.
