Tango Argentina . . . by Andrew Gibson

Tango is the national dance of Argentina, and originated in the barrio of La Boca at the turn of the century amongst Italian immigrants. Now tango dancers perform in the streets and tango halls of Buenos Aires for tourists and locals alike. But more than just an attraction, the Argentine passion for tango runs deep. Every night, couples all over the country meet in shadowy halls to dance the tango, simply for the pleasure of it, away from the eyes of tourists. These dances are called milongas. This photo was taken at one.
