Slinky Study in Black and White . . .     by Dawn LeBlanc

Quite some time ago, I ordered a sensor cleaning kit from Copperhill and along with it came a little toy multi-coloured slinky. It was the middle of winter and I was in need of a new subject but was loathe to go outdoors as it was very cold at the time. So I decided that perhaps the slinky would suffice. I think its strong geometric lines were the the attraction–that and the lack of anything else close to hand.

I did a number of coloured shots, but this one converted to black and white. It’s a good lesson to remind me that if we cast around around our homes, we can often find interesting subjects for macros right at our finger tips.

  1. Absolutely amazing lighting. Would you care to elaborate on that?

  2. This is stunningly abstract, and as Andreas has said, awesome light. Very well done,

    Gary.

  5. thanks for all the comments folks! For Andreas, the actual slinkey was flourescent in color–several shades of flourescent color. So when I converted it to B&W, I pumped up the yellows and it made it almost glow. I didn’t really do anything special to light it–it was shot in natural window light. Thanks again everyone! Much appreciated.

  6. Absolutely love this picture – I assume this is a plastic slinky and not the thin metal coil one my kids have
