Night Lights II . . .     by Andreas Manessinger

On a summer night in Vienna, Austria, lights reflect on a car

I shot this image more than a year ago, shortly before midnight, after dinner with dear friends. It’s been taken with the Sigma 20/1.8 at f1.8. There is not much sharpness here, this is all about night lights. This is one of the two images that I presented to Ted Byrne when we met in Florence.

Signed prints available for $490 USD.

  1. Very much I like such unusual pictures, usually I do(make) something in this sort on a disco.

  2. There’s a very nice effect to this photo… I don’t know how you did it but the lights and the reflection look very arty and unusual. Nice!

  3. After dinner with friends, shortly before midnight, accompanying them to the Underground station, I was desperate for an image. I had my then new 20/1.8 mounted, set it to f1.8, went very near to a car, set the lens to minimum focus distance (only an inch in front of the front element), and worked with the lights in the background. That’s about it. Actually it was pretty straightforward, a matter of seconds. I was talking to them all the while.

Later in Photoshop I guess I’ve removed some noise and slightly boosted the colors, but not much. Pretty amazing what you can do with a 20, when it focuses so near, huh?
